Fitzgerald pirouette is a slow motion extrapolation of the final syllables of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Lost Decade, ordered alphabetically. Fitzgerald’s touching short story of a man gradually recognising and returning to the city around him after a decade of alcoholism carries with it a myriad of subtle messages exploring how time, tactility, and subjectivity are intertwined.
Written for 16 voices split into three distinct groups, the piece harbours different musics that unfold and rotate at their own glacial pace. With no clear foreground or background, it is a space constructed of real and imagined reoccurrence, always different yet never really changing.
